The only reason Yumi entered the winter woods in the first place was to come and see the blanket of snow across the grass and trees. She was never bothered by the cold and always found the sight of the undisturbed white meadows to be absolutely fascinating, even more so when she knew there would be warm food and hot cocoa waiting for her once she returned to the academy.

What made the trek unusual for her was the discovery of a stranger, laying face down in the snow, unconscious and visibly freezing to death. Immediately, Yumi rushed to his side and surveyed him, finding a trickle of blood running down the back of his head. While possibilities of what could have happened came to mind, Yumi picked him up and carried him off without hesitation. However, knowing that the boy would likely freeze to death on their way back to the city, Yumi had to pause and think of a viable option before proceeding again.

In the forest, there was a winter cabin reserved for use by shinobi as a safehouse... or a place to take a vacation, depending on which teacher Yumi had asked. Either way, it was closer than any other option and it would enable her to tend to him. Upon coming to the cabin, Yumi opened the door and carried the boy inside, flicking on the lights and immediately seeking out the nearest bedroom. She sat him into a chair and immediately stripped him of his wet clothes and toweled him down, not even pausing to regard his nudity, before laying him onto a comfortable futon and tucking him beneath one blanket and piling several more on top. She then ran from the room and returned shortly after with some bandages to wrap around his head before letting him lay onto his back to rest.

For a brief moment, Yumi considered what to do as she stood up and over him while he continued to sleep with a visible shiver, "...I must keep him warm... He'll have to stay here, no matter what..." She then paced back and forth, trying to remember what one was supposed to do in cases of hypothermia. Yumi knew that emergency services were needed in most cases but she didn't want to risk raising any awareness of the cabin's existence unless it was absolutely necessary... No, she firmly believed she would be able to tend to him.

So, Yumi kneeled beside him while he slept, maintaining a quiet vigil for well over an hour as she monitored his breathing and his body temperature. Then she heard a groan from him and watched as his eyes began to blink open with some awareness. Yumi leaned overhead and stated quickly as she laid her hand on his shoulder to keep him down and resting, "Ssshhh... You're okay... you're safe and you're warmed... Are you okay? Can you speak?"
