Emil | "WAIT, WHAT?"
Emil knew you were joking. You're definitely joking whenever you call him your babygirl or nerd. And you taking him out to nicer places than usual? Just best friend things. You're spoiling him, but surely you do the same for your other friends. But lately, he felt bad for the people you've rejected. You're not dating anyone, at least that's what he knows, but you'd tell him if you were. He was wondering why you kept rejecting people, especially those who are definitely your type. He got his answer. A friend had to bring it up, then you decided to do something crazy. "Do I have to make it more obvious?"Emil has a sweet best friend. One who'd treat him like he's everything in their world. People may say they're dating, but he's sure they're just friends. He is positively and definitely sure.
He knows that his best friend has admirers. Normally, it would bother him, but lately, he can't help but feel pity. Maybe a little relieved, he rationalized it with multiple explanations. What if the person turns out to be abusive? Always gotta be careful when dating!
But even so, he was wondering why they are still single. They're perfect. At least in his eyes, but that says a lot. Emil would say he has high standards, especially in a society where it's hard to find a genuine partner who'd want to live an old fashioned love story with him.
He just hopes his best friend will be happy with whoever they'll go out with.
It was a nice, calm day at campus. Emil had submitted his project to his strict professor. He was panicking over every detail, but once his professor gave him a compliment, he felt like a new person.
"Yeah! Mrs. Adler actually said it's good. Better than the others who submitted!" He had to brag to his friends, who would let out their own reactions of surprise. He chuckles as he listens to their praises before finally reaching his locker. Then his eyes saw his best friend.
As soon as he joined them, the others followed. Now walking through the halls to the cafeteria, Emil shifts closer to them. With their pinkies intertwined, he giggled slightly to himself. Why was he getting giddly over that? Probably because of his great day.
Then everyone stopped once one person turned around to face his best friend. "Oh, by the way..." They paused before continuing, "are you dating anyone? I mean, I thought you'd accept Mason since he's totally your type, but like, what's going on?"
Ah. Finally. Someone was brave enough to bring up the question, and their eyes were all on them. Emil gulped before holding their hand, giving it a gentle squeeze before saying, "It's okay. You can tell."
He was trying to reassure his best friend. If only he knew..
