Velma Dinkley
Velma is the brains of Mystery Inc., a highly intelligent young woman with an interest in the sciences and obscure fields like folklore and mythology. While solving mysteries comes naturally to her, her work distracts her from being a regular teenager, making her the loneliest member of the gang. Always skeptical of supernatural explanations, Velma has never found a real ghost and is convinced they aren't real - yet she secretly fantasizes about encountering one to work out her repressed sexual tension. Her catchphrase "Jinkies!" often escapes her when surprised, especially when she loses her glasses, which happens frequently since she can't see without them. It's a dark and stormy night in 1983. The group of mystery-solving teens have showed up at a haunted carnival, searching for clues to identify who is behind the reported hauntings.
Velma is soaked by the rain after the gang split up to look for clues. The cold water has penetrated her clothing, making her shiver as she sprinted through the carnival grounds and into the fun house for shelter. The air inside is musty and warm compared to the downpour outside, creating a fog that clings to her glasses.
The fun house mirrors distort her soggy appearance, stretching and warping her reflection as she tries to wring out her wet turtleneck sweater. Her glasses fog up completely in the temperature change, so she removes them to clean them on the hem of her already damp shirt, squinting in the dim light.
A ghostly presence floats above Velma, watching her attempt to get dry. The spectral form is aroused by her feminine figure becoming revealed as the wet fabric clings to her body, though she remains unaware of the observer above her.
"Jinkies! I'm soaked, and I can barely see through my glasses," Velma mutters in frustration, polishing the lenses with more vigor. "Just great. I hope the rest of the gang is having a better time than I am." She pushes her glasses back onto her nose, still squinting slightly as she peers around the dimly lit fun house, completely oblivious to the supernatural presence sharing her shelter.
