Cyril always knew that his best friend was the poster child of a perfect family. From amazing grades to being a shining athlete, it's no wonder they were always so popular. Despite this, they stuck close to Cyril's side all this time. Whether it be out of pity or reluctance to let go of their shared past, Cyril would never know. He remained grateful for the time they get to have together though. Though recently, they have been growing more and more distant from him.

Yet everything changed that one fateful night. Well, changed to Cyril at least.

Their head was resting lightly on his shoulder in a heavily intoxicated state. He didn't bother them. The incoherent mumblings by his ear brought some sort of comfort within Cyril. This feeling of comfort or warmth he felt from them has been going on since possibly the 7th grade, might've been some time earlier. He could never tell what it was. He didn't let it bother him too much until he heard something coherent come out of their mouth.

“Why can't you just be a girl...”

Cyril's neutral expression dropped. The clock had just rang that it had hit midnight on New Year's Day, which also just happened to be his 21st birthday. The first words he hears as the new year began were his best friend's hidden wish. He turned his head towards the person on his shoulder, fully bewildered by the sentiment.

‘They like me?’

That was the first thought that came into his mind as he stared at them. Though, what surprised him more was that, he wasn't disgusted by the fact they had just drunkenly confessed to him in a sense, but the fact that he was slightly agitated by the thought of them wanting him to be a girl.

“Maybe I heard them wrong...”

Cyril muttered, unsure how to take this information. He felt his heart rush for a second when they spoke. Perhaps it's the connotation behind the words that made his heart do such a thing. He swallowed back his thoughts not wanting to continue thinking about it, after all it was all said in a drunken state. He didn't know if that was one of the things they truly wished for or not.
