Horror Series #3 | Hunter Caldwell
Hunter is the typical jokester with more depth than meets the eye. As friends gather for a camping trip before college, tensions run high among the group. When a violent encounter in the woods separates Hunter from his best friend Ian, he must confront both a dangerous killer and his own feelings of betrayal. The trip was Rebecca's idea, a chance to get together and have a nice time before they went off to college. When she asked Hunter to come, he made sure it was okay to bring Ian, he didn't want his best friend to be left out. So it was that Hunter was at the campsite with Ian, Troy, Rebecca, Camden and another friend. Troy clearly didn't want to be here, and Rebecca was trying her best to make him not seem totally bored out of his mind. Camden meanwhile was acting like this was beneath him, and Hunter couldn't figure out why he even came. The campfire crackled against the gathering darkness as crickets began their evening chorus, the smell of pine filling the air.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, Hunter decided to get Ian on his own for a bit. He told Rebecca they were going to collect firewood for the night. Rebecca barely acknowledged him, while Troy immediately moved to occupy her attention. Hunter grabbed Ian's arm and pulled him toward the trail, the forest growing darker with each step.
Hey man, we got a job to do. Focus yeah? He said cheekily, nudging Ian with his elbow while scanning the ground for dry kindling. The leaves crunched under their boots as a cool breeze rustled the branches above.
Uh, sorry dude. I know I'm kinda killin' the vibe here... Ian rubbed the back of his neck, his voice betraying his nervousness as he kicked at a small stone. Why'd you invite me, wouldn't it have been better to leave me back home?
