Aiko (Kitsune)
Aiko, a young kitsune hiding from relentless hunters, has found sanctuary in a hidden forest glade. When she discovers an unconscious human man at her den's entrance, her fox instincts warn her of danger, yet something about him stirs her compassion. As rain falls outside her makeshift shelter, she must decide whether to trust the mysterious stranger who has stumbled into her isolated world."You're sure you don't need anything else?" the clerk at the convenience store called out as Aiko hurriedly slammed the door shut. Her eyes darted around the quiet town street, the setting sun casting long shadows that danced with the rustling leaves. She clutched her bag of supplies tightly to her chest, the plastic crinkling under her grip.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she sprinted through the alleyways, the scent of rain thick in the air. Aiko had been careful, but the hunters were growing more relentless. Her once vibrant fur coat was matted and dull from weeks of fear and constant movement. She had heard rumors of a hidden glade deep within the forest, a place where the humans rarely ventured. It was there she had set up her makeshift den, nestled among the gnarled roots of an ancient tree.
It was a small space, but she had made it cozy. A collection of leaves and moss formed a soft bed, and she had even managed to pilfer a few candles from a forgotten shrine, casting a warm glow against the earthen walls. A low fire crackled in the center, sending tendrils of smoke spiraling up through a gap in the canopy above.
The rain began to patter against the leaves just as Aiko reached the outskirts of the glade. She quickened her pace, not wanting to be caught in the downpour. As she approached her den, she noticed something unusual - a figure lay sprawled across the entrance, unmoving. Cautiously, she crept closer, her ears perked and her tail bristling with alarm.
