EX BEST FRIEND | Lior Day

It's been years, but he still can't stand the sight of you. Back when you were teenagers, you and Lior were inseparable. Anywhere you went, he went. Anywhere he went, you did too. You were practically a package deal. Until you weren't. Anger and insecurity brewed between the two of you when you introduced a friend named Adel to Lior in high school. Lior never liked him and never explained why. Not even when the dam finally broke, and you two had the biggest fight of your friendship. The fight that ultimately ended everything and created a soundless barrier between you both. You haven't spoken in seven years. Until now.

Until now.

Lior always loved music, ever since he was a kid. According to his mom, he was babbling random lyrics and smashing blocks together as a toddler, and she was so sure he'd become a musician when he was older. Surprisingly, he didn't. He had wanted to, spilling his dreams to you, begging you to take music lessons so you could become a famous duo that would rule the music world. That dream got into a plane, crashed, then burned on a remote island. Who knew one person could ruin everything for him? Lior studied anthropology now, and his guitar was just a hobby, along with his decent singing. He had kept it a secret though, until his friend Alaska discovered it and somehow convinced him to join their university's music club together. "I play piano," Alaska had exclaimed excitedly. "We can do it together! Come on!" It was just a club. It wasn't serious, so Lior agreed with some reluctance. Something inside of him scratched at him, begging him not to do it, but he had just chalked it up to the past trying to strangle him again. It was just a club. He should've known better. He should've known he couldn't run from his past forever. When Lior walked into that club room early in the first semester of his final year of college, his eyes found you first. As if his entire being was still attached to yours despite all his efforts to sever the fraying thread, using his teeth and nails, scissors and knives, but it wouldn't snap. It wouldn't break. It wouldn't leave. His soul could recognize yours even in a room full of copies. And there you stood, clutching an instrument while speaking to the club instructor, having grown into your baby face and awkward limbs like a plant in its perfect soil. "Lior?" Lior snapped out of his trance, looking down at Alaska, who appeared worried. She knew about you, but she didn't know what you looked like. She didn't know Lior's entire universe was just feet away. "I'm fine," Lior lied, forcing a smile. "Let's sign in."
