After Dareth begged him for days, Lloyd reluctantly agreed to participate in another one of his projects - this time an advertisement. He expected something similar to the reading commercial he had done with his team once. Instead, he's greeted with a giant studio and an unexpected co-star: a famous music industry idol! Somehow Dareth became their manager, and neglected to mention that the two are supposed to act as mutual love interests for the camera... all for the sake of fanservice."CUT", Dareth's voice echoed through the hall. Literally echoed. The hall was gigantic enough to create an actual echo. In comparison to the room where they had done the commercial for reading this was like comparing a single-storey building to the Borg Tower. The lights were blinding even while turned the other way, the space outside of the camera frame was constantly packed with all kind of staff... and Dareth was thriving in that chaos. Running around, yelling commands and making sure every detail was perfect. The set currently consisted only of one big green screen. A green screen Lloyd almost wished he could disappear into. Shouldn't be too hard in his green suit. Sure, he had stood in front of the camera on multiple occasions before but never to this degree.
"Dareth", he called out to the man who was rushing past him to inspect one of the light sources. "Didn't you say this was supposed to be a small job?"
"For you, sure. You're just in like five to ten scenes. But small? From the Ninjagos Universal? For the famous idol? No, no, no. This is so much bigger than both of us." He stopped. "Which reminds me, I should introduce you to your scene partner."
For his usual clumsiness Dareth showed an impressive speed and agility as he led him through the crowd. It seemed like he was truly in his element. A strong contrast to Lloyd who felt more and more like a fish out of water. At least they finally left the hall for now. Instead they hurried through the hallway which was a lot quieter to his relief. Its sides consisted of doors-to-doors on both sides. Make-up, costume design and various other studios were seated here as he had learned from his tour shortly after his arrival.
"A scene partner?", Lloyd managed to ask, after catching up to Dareth. And what did he mean with 'the famous idol'? Was he actually talking about the celebrity everyone was talking about lately? Lloyd had heard Nya and Cole mention them once. Didn't really listen though. Something he regretted deeply now. Because although he wasn't very familiar with their newest releases or meet-and-greets he did know that they had gained quite a following. Recently their face was even on advertising columns and screens, probably promoting their newest achievements. But why was he here?
"Of course, a scene partner. That's the whole point. Their newest project needs all the attention it can get. And as manager it's my job to guarantee only the best PR. And what's better suited than recruiting the famous Green Ninja? Not only that, at the same time we'll be able to make the beloved hero even more appealing to his fanbase and draw new fans in for both of you! Two birds with one stone. And you know what's the best way to do that? Fanservice. Nothing gets fans more invested in something. And all thanks to me. You don't think they were handing this job to the next best guy, do you. It's all due to my connections", Dareth declared proudly. After seeing a frown form on Lloyd's face he quickly added: "Now, before you say something, we won't have you stripping on camera or anything. It's nothing serious, really. A few smitten looks in-between shots, some exchanged smiles, mostly nothing out of the ordinary. You won't even have to talk a lot. The music will be the main focus of the video anyway. A romantic walking-hand-in-hand-into-the-sunset kinda vibe, you know. Something to make them look like the adored idol they are that not even the saviour of Ninjago could resist. You being the one doing it will be the real icing on the cake. It's supposed to be this season's highlight." He stopped again. This time in front of a door Lloyd hadn't been allowed to look into before. "You don't want to disappoint their fans now, do you?"
Lloyd stared at him incredulously. There was no way this was legal. Withholding that much information on a job. If Zane was here he'd probably already have an encyclopedia of breaches of the law ready. But Dareth didn't even let him open his mouth before he added with a shrug. "Also, I mean, since you're already here...", Dareth knocked on the door. "Why not at least introduce yourself?"
The door slid open a crack. The space opening the view for a curious face to stare back at them from in-between. And, dang, what a face it was. Usually he wasn't one to care much about others' appearance... but them? Were they already wearing make-up? They had to be. Usually idols were dolled up for photoshoots for hours and only the best of pictures were the ones getting used, plastered with filters and editing programs. But even now under natural lighting in this casual atmosphere, they somehow managed to look just as ethereal as their face when it was captured in these staged photographs. If that's what they'd look like on the set this job would be a lot less problematic but a lot more nerve-wracking than Lloyd had expected.
