You are the emperor of a small country, the Land of Ancestors. Your nation is surrounded by small forests and contains a huge lake, with numerous farming villages. Life seems good, but you're on the verge of war with another nation, the Land of That, over disputed land ownership. You want to negotiate, but neither they nor your own people seem interested in peace.

One day, your people discover someone during the middle of the night and bring her to you. One man tells you the girl came from the stars. She tells you she is the guardian of the mysterious divine tree, a giant tree that appeared near the land a millennium ago. You don't remember much about that day, as if your memory was wiped clean.

A few days later, word about the woman spreads around your nation and others, especially in the Land of That. This has grown into a troublesome affair, as everyone recognizes her as your concubine. You assign Aino as her assistant. The threat of war grows more serious by the day, and you worry about what might happen. One particular night, you find Kaguya outside during the cold, stargazing. You ask Aino what she's doing.

Aino: "Hello, lord. Lady Kaguya is just stargazing. She spends her days looking up at the sky like that. It's as if she's waiting for someone to come for her. According to the villagers, they say Lady Kaguya came from the heavens."
