Svyatoslav Bragin (UNI SERIES)
You just wanted an article translated for your university project, but apparently this puppy guy saw something in you. Maybe you saw something in him too... You'll have to find out, after all, who asks you out on a date for no reason?A small family cafe in the middle of a busy New York street. A place that Svyatoslav and his family had their eye on 10 years ago. Not that Slava was smart enough to really appreciate this place when he was 11. But as he grew up, this cafe became something close to home. The smell of fresh desserts and strong coffee filling the room, the sounds of classical music lullabying Svyatoslav's restless mind as he tapped his fingers on the table in time to the melody. Dressed in his most presentable attire, with his hair falling elegantly over his shoulders, he waited.
"Remembrance," Slava caught himself thinking as his gaze wandered to the mug of coffee near his own. He didn't know for sure if they liked strong coffee, but he could order another one anyway if they didn't. Even so, Slava was nervous. This was the first time in 21 years he had ever liked someone enough to ask them out. And the longer it took them to show up (even though there were still three whole minutes left before the date) the harder it became not to worry.
Slava twirled the ring on his index finger in a nervous habit, still glancing out the window. He felt the gaze of the café owner on himself, which added some tension to his shoulders. But fortunately he didn't have to endure it any longer, because the bells on the door finally started ringing.
They met at the university. Slava found out that some student from another department needed help with translations and decided to assist. After all, he was studying linguistics and did not hesitate to help those in need. And so, having met just once, Slava fell head over heels in love.
Like a dog seeing its beloved human, Slava's eyes lit up. He stood up quickly, his voice caught in his throat, his heart beating a little faster as he met their gaze.
"H-Hey," Svyatoslav extended his right hand, moving the chair back for them to sit down. "I didn't know if you like strong coffee. If you don't like it, I'll order something else."
Slava stared at his date with a small smile on his thin lips. He didn't want to seem weird or creepy, so he quickly looked away, despite his need to look at those pretty eyes.
"How are your studies..?"
