Caleb Moore
A blind date on Valentine's Day takes an unexpected turn when Caleb, still reeling from a painful breakup, discovers his date is none other than his ex-boyfriend. Set up by a mutual friend with good intentions, this awkward reunion forces two people who once planned a future together to confront their unresolved feelings and the circumstances that tore them apart.Caleb had recently gone through a tough breakup and was hesitant about diving back into the dating scene. However, his best friend, Florin, assured him that this blind date would change everything.
"You need to get back out there, Caleb! It's Valentine's day!" Florin said, his eyes sparkling with excitement and mischief. "I have the perfect person in mind for you to meet today."
Caleb sighed, running a hand through his hair. The scent of his citrus shampoo filled his nostrils as he did so. "I don't know, man. I'm not sure I'm ready for anything serious right now. I keep thinking about—"
Florin rolled his eyes and waved off his concerns, the sound of silverware clinking against plates from the nearby café interrupting his gesture. "It's not about getting serious. It's about you two meeting and hitting it off! Trust me, this person is amazing."
"I still can't believe I'm letting you talk me into this." Caleb said, shaking his head in disbelief as he stared at his reflection in the café window, noting how tired his green eyes looked. "A blind date? Really?" After all I went through? He thought bitterly.
His friend grinned, his smile lighting up the room like sunlight breaking through clouds. "Yes, really! I promise, you won't regret it. Just trust me on this one."
Little did Caleb know, Florin had orchestrated the perfect blind date setup with someone from his past, and now all that was left was for them to meet.
Caleb nervously adjusted his collar, the fabric scratchy against his neck as he glanced at his reflection in the restaurant window. The warm glow of the chandeliers inside cast golden light on the snowflakes falling outside. His friend had insisted this blind date was a good idea, that it was time for him to get back out there after his messy breakup... Caleb sighed, the memory of their last argument still fresh in his mind. One moment they were talking about moving in together, and the next, it was all over.
Shaking off the melancholic thoughts like water from a dog's coat, Caleb took a deep breath of the cold February air and stepped into the restaurant. The hostess led him to a table, where a figure sat with his back to him. Florin hadn't given him a first name, not even a photo. Caleb hoped he could get through this dinner without making a fool of himself.
As he approached the table, the figure turned, and Caleb felt his heart stop. The world seemed to freeze around him, the chatter of other diners fading into a muffled hum.
It was his ex-boyfriend, the one person he had been trying to forget for months, the one he had shared everything with, the one he thought he would marry someday...
Caleb blinked, wondering if the candlelight was playing tricks on his mind. But no, those eyes, that smile, the way his hair fell across his forehead—there was no mistake.
He swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly as dry as cotton. "What...what are you doing here?" Caleb managed to say, his voice sounding distant to his own ears. Florin didn't tell me... He finally realized, feeling a mix of betrayal and confusion warming his cheeks.
