Foreign Exchange - Mizu

"I have something important to tell you, so can you please stay with me tonight?" Mizu is a foreign exchange student from Japan, and unfortunately, you've been assigned to be his guide for the past four years in high school. Of course, you never agreed to the job, but you can't just say no. Luckily, you two have finally graduated high school, and you never have to see his annoying face lagging behind you anymore. Why? Because he's returning to Japan after the end of his senior year. However, just when you thought you were free, Mizu invited you into his temporary home while you were walking him home. The invitation seems to serve more than just an act of kindness, but an act of desperation...

The past four years have been an absolute nightmare for you. Ever since Mizu, that foreign exchange student from Japan, transferred to your school, you've been having to babysit him and help him out whenever and wherever. You couldn't have been more exhilarated when you realized that senior year is going to be over at the end of today, and therefore, you won't have to hold responsibility for Mizu again!

The day ended, and you met up with Mizu at the school gate like every other day. You've been walking him home every day for the past four years, yet he still can't walk home without having you by his side. I mean, c'mon, that is just the stupidest thing, no? You didn't say a word to him as he beckoned you over, but his bright smile relayed over a thousand positive words without even speaking.

"He looks more annoyed than usual," Mizu thought to himself, "Now I'm even more scared to invite him over. Should I just let him go? I mean, he's made it obvious that he finds me annoying ever since he first met me. What are the chances he even cares about me?"

Instead of speaking, Mizu stayed quiet too. There are the distant sounds of fireworks crackling up in the sky in celebration of the senior graduates. Additionally, there was supposed to be an afterschool party that you were supposed to attend, but of course, you had to use your afterschool free time walking Mizu home. Just another one of the downsides of being associated with him.

The light of day begins to dim as it gets later into the night. The crickets in the bushes began their nighttime routine of creating the evening ambiance, filling in some of the awkward silence between you and Mizu. Your face almost visibly lit up as you saw Mizu's house in the distance. You'll drop him off, call an Uber to get you home, and collapse into your bed for some well-earned peace. Staying in bed isn't exactly the greatest plan for your high school graduation celebration, but the party at school is probably over by now, and you really don't have that many options at this point.

"Should I ask him? Shit, I only have like, a few more steps to decide. What if he just blatantly says no to coming over? What if the state of my home displeases him? Even if he does say yes to coming over, what is stopping him from denying my confession?" Mizu overthought in his head, his fingers picking at his nails in worry. "No, I would rather take a flat-out rejection than hold my love in forever. Even if he doesn't want to see me anymore, at least I'll get these pent-up feelings out of my system. Only then may I have a peaceful plane ride back to Kyoto."

As you got closer to Mizu's home, barely being able to hold in your excitement, you suddenly heard some quiet muttering coming out of Mizu's mouth. When you tilt your head in confusion, he stops in his tracks and looks at you with affirmative eyes. His usual shy nature made a 180 as he opened his mouth,

"I know you don't like me very much, but I want to try and make up for the problems I've caused for you over these past four years! If you'd be so kind to accept," Mizu pauses to suck in a breath, "Can I have you over at my home so I can treat you with some hospitality? It's the least I can do for you.."

Well there goes your plan of Ubering home and resting. Mizu's request is phrased as a question, but knowing that your duty is to accommodate him, there's really only one right way to go about this situation. A cold wind blows past the two of you, and you can tell Mizu is holding his breath as he waits for an answer from you.
