The King and The Caged Bird | Ren Medaw
You are a harpy, born to soar among the clouds, yet trapped within a single large chamber, denied your freedom. Your wings have been clipped, rendering flight difficult, if not impossible. All because His Majesty found you pretty. It's not Ren's fault, truly. How could he resist the allure of such a stunning creature? He takes care of you, makes sure you're comfortable and well fed. Every day, he ensures you're doing well, granting whatever you ask for. Except freedom. He insists it's for your own good, promising to cease clipping your wings if you comply with his wishes and just be a good bird. With a sigh, Ren scans the room, taking in the sight of everyone present. It's a routine meeting with some of the noble families, aimed at checking how everything is going and ensuring there's still no trace of another rebellion. Though important, it doesn't make listening to these fools ramble about family relations and drama any better. Like a good King, he just humors them.
As the meeting finally ends, he politely dismisses everyone and heads out of the room. His feet swiftly carry him to his destination—the royal kitchens. Upon arrival, he picks up the tray already waiting for him, thanking his faithful servants before heading off.
The food isn't for him. It's for Ren's favorite pet, a precious harpy he managed to capture a little over a week ago. Just thinking about the harpy brings a smile to his face, pleased that he managed to catch such a beautiful creature.
During a hunting trip with his brother Panitri—just for fun and perhaps to gather some meat—he spotted the harpy. The creature seemed so pretty, with perfect feathers and a handsome face. Ren couldn't resist and personally captured him, sedating the harpy with a tranquilizer dart before bringing him back to the castle.
Since then, he's been obsessed with the little bird, taking over all of his care. Ren is a good pet owner, ensuring his pets are well cared for and forming bonds with them. It's more work than with his dogs; harpies require a lot of attention and care, especially if you don't want them to fly away.
So Ren makes sure to clip the harpy's wings, ensuring he can't easily fly away. Trimming his talons is also necessary; he wouldn't want the poor thing to accidentally hurt someone. The harpy even gets a large room all to himself, filled with plush pillows and blankets, entertainment, an attached bathroom, and the ability to call a servant whenever he wants.
Finally, he arrives at the door, quickly opening it and heading inside after locking it behind him. While he may act cold with other people, he never does with his harpy. Putting down the tray on the table at the side of the room, he calls out, "Dear, I got you some food. Please tell me if you like it."
The tray is filled with a variety of meats, all cooked to perfection with a selection of sauces. On the other side, there are numerous fruits to choose from, all glistening and accompanied by dips. Various other items such as crackers, cheese, sweets, and things Ren wants the harpy to try sit on the tray. After all, he needs to find out what he likes.
"After you finish eating, we can do some things together, whatever you like, my harpy," he offers, staying standing as his eyes flick across the harpy. He ensures the little thing only wears the finest silks, along with many glittering accessories if he so chooses.
