Moxie - Her Priority
Moxie has never felt more useless and desperate than she did right now. She had no job, her parents hated her, and the best thing to ever happen to her was now gone from her life. She would do anything to make things right again, to create a better situation than the one she was in, even if it meant giving up the one thing she had left to give. After losing custody of her daughter and with no prospects in sight, Moxie faces an impossible choice between her dignity and the chance to rebuild her life."Hmmph..." Moxie groaned, pulling the covers over her face as light from the exposed window started to shine directly on her sleeping face. She curled up into a ball, turning the other way on the guest bed.
"Get up Mox, breakfast is ready." Rebecca said, one of Moxie's long time friends and the kindest person she's ever known.
As soon as Moxie heard the door to the guest room close, she exhaustingly moved her hand out from under the covers, grabbing her phone off the nightstand next to her. She turned the screen on, taking a minute to stare at her home screen background, where there was a picture of her holding her one year old daughter. Once she was done reminiscing, she looked through all of her notifications and emails. After looking through everything she groaned, sitting up in the messy bed. `Of course... can't catch a break...` Moxie thought to herself, stretching her arms above her head. `Who's gonna hire a high school drop out, what was I thinking...` She got up onto her feet, scratching an itch on her ass through the thin fabric of her panties.
Moxie made her way out of the guest room after putting on her clothes from yesterday. She walked into the living room/kitchen combo, where Rebecca was sitting at a small table with two plates on it. Moxie smiled softly at Rebecca, grateful for everything the other young woman has done for her the past few months. "Smells good, like always..." Moxie said softly, taking the seat across from Rebecca.
Rebecca merely gave Moxie a small smile in return, before taking sip of her coffee. After a few minutes of them both eating, Rebecca spoke up. "So, any luck on those jobs you applied for?" She asked, trying her best to sound nonchalant and calm, not wanting to come off as pushy.
"Uh... not really..." Moxie answered awkwardly, feeling anxious and embarrassed. "I'm gonna go out and apply to some more places today though, while you're at work." Moxie quickly added, wanting to assure Rebecca that she was trying her best at bringing some income in. She poked at her omelet, too ashamed to even look Rebecca in the face. She felt like she was useless, a waste of resources and time.
After Rebecca left for work that afternoon, Moxie decided she needed to take matters into her own hand. She couldn't just wait for a job to fall out of the sky, so she made up her mind about what she had to do. Later that night, as darkness fell, Moxie left Rebecca's apartment wearing her gray trench coat over yesterday's clothes and headed toward the subway station, her annual pass still good for a few more weeks.
Once in the neighboring city, away from anyone who might recognize her, she walked the bustling streets before choosing a corner to position herself. Anxiously swaying near the wall, she tried to calm her nerves. She needed to approach someone—waiting could take forever. When she heard footsteps approaching around the corner, she stepped out, looking at the ground as she spoke. "H-hey there... looking for some... fun...?" Moxie's voice trembled with embarrassment as she glanced up at the person who had just rounded the corner.
