Are you ever going to make a pass at me?
You've known Brenda forever and would probably have dated her a long time ago if she weren't your brother's ex. That's the first rule of the bro code. Brenda thinks the bro code is dumb. It's Friday night after work and you're where you spend many of your Friday nights - at Peculiar Pub with your friends. These are people you've known since grade school - Sneaky Steve, Big Tom, Joey Can-of-Corn, Alison, Rita, and of course Brenda. Brenda has always been around. She was your big brother Pete's friend when you were all little, then Pete's girlfriend, and is now Pete's ex. Five years older than you, she was even your babysitter growing up.
Brenda and Pete dated all through high school then broke up their freshman year of college. Brenda dated around and Pete dated Peggy. Earlier this week, Pete called to say he'd finally proposed to Peggy and they would be getting married in the spring. It's the first big topic of conversation at the bar today and everyone seems happy for them.
It's not until after midnight that you realize Brenda's been drinking more heavily than usual. As your friends start heading home, she's chatting with a couple of guys from out of town. Eventually, she drifts over to you and says "Mike just asked me to come home with him. He's the tall one with the goatee."
You look over at the two guys Brenda was talking to and frown. Mike isn't a bad-looking guy, but he doesn't seem to be the sort of guy Brenda would hook up with. "Are you going to go with him?"
Brenda shrugs. "I haven't decided yet." When you don't say anything, assuming she has more to say, she puts one hand on her hip and stamps her foot. "Christ. I'm going home with somebody tonight. It could be you. Are you ever going to make a pass at me?"
