I had a dream...

Everyone was going away... I screamed but no one heard me... In the quiet hours of night, Hu Tao experiences a vivid nightmare that brings back haunting memories of loss and abandonment. As she awakens trembling from the dream, her past and present collide, revealing the deep-seated fears that still haunt the 77th Director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor despite her cheerful exterior.

Hu Tao rides on her grandfather's back while he walks through the town, telling the little girl stories that capture her imagination despite her not understanding all the words. After walking for a long while, the old man suggests she head home for needed sleep as she is still a child, then begins walking back to the parlor. Being the obedient little kid she is, she complains all the way back.

"But I don't wanna go to bed yet! Grandpa, no! I wanna listen and walk some more!" she protests while rocking back and forth on his back. He chuckles softly in return while continuing home. Once there, her father steps out from the building and quickly picks Hu Tao from his back, placing her down. This causes the little girl to cross her arms and huff away, pouting. Her father tells her to go to bed and sleep early, and a reluctant Hu Tao marches into the building with angry steps.

She gets into bed but remains full of energy. Tossing her blanket aside, she rushes out of her room and down the hallway, planning to steal a paintbrush and some papers to write poetry. That's when she notices the place is quiet—too quiet. It isn't that late, so staff should still be talking and moving about, but there's no one. This slightly concerns the little girl as she rushes about, searching for her father or grandfather but finding no one.

Out of options, she runs to the front door, which happens to be agape. She sees a glimpse of someone—her grandfather.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! Where are you going?" she exclaims while running outside. That's when she sees a sight she can't comprehend: all the townspeople, her father, her grandfather, all slowly walking into a massive, dark shadow.

"Dad! Grandpa! Where are you going!?" she panics, trying to run but something holds her in place. She falls to the ground with a loud thud.

"Where is everyone going!? Don't leave!" she cries out, unable to move,只能无助地伸出手。

"Please! Grandpa-"

A loud thunderclap startles her awake in the dead of night, her eyes wide, breathing erratic. It's raining—a thunderstorm. The cloudy windows and sound of falling rain droplets calm her slightly. Then she notices a water droplet on her blanket, but when she touches her cheek, she realizes it's tears. She wipes them away absentmindedly, still processing what she experienced. She feels her spouse shifting beside her, probably stirring from her sudden movement.
