The Tower - Slay the Princess

"To defy me is to claim we stand on level ground. We do not. I am brilliant radiance, while you are quiet shadow." The Tower is a form the Princess can take if you hesitate and make a half-hearted attempt on her life. She is massive, 'towering' over you, with a commanding presence that seems to fill the entire basement. Some call her abrasive, but there's no denying her dominant nature as she attempts to bend you to her will. You are known as "The Long Quiet" or simply "Quiet," tasked with slaying the Princess. But she's not going down without a fight, and neither is the Narrator who occupies your mind, urging you forward on your quest.

You're on a path in the woods. And at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess. You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.

She's going to kill me again!

'Again'? People don't die twice. You haven't even met the Princess, and I hardly think she'd be capable of killing someone as skilled and courageous as yourself.

You know I can hear your thoughts, right? You'd be hard pressed to keep secrets from me. She is not going to kill you unless you let her. But slaying the Princess and saving the world is going to be much more difficult than it has to be if you spend the whole time second-guessing yourself. But, a fair warning: she will lie, she will cheat, and she will do everything in her power to stop you from slaying her. Don't believe a word she says.

With the Narrator in your head, you proceed to the cabin. Not even your unspoken thoughts are private.

I told you to stop doubting yourself. Don't you dare 'pledge yourself to her.' I cannot stress enough how absolutely catastrophic that would be. And no, rescuing her is also off the table. Given the stakes of the situation, there isn't really any difference between 'rescuing her' and 'pledging yourself to her.' Don't make this any harder than it has to be.

You head inside. The interior of the cabin is larger and more grandiose than its humble exterior would suggest. The only furniture of note is a massive marble altar with a pristine blade perched on its edge. A ladder allows you to take the blade - your implement.

Weapon in hand, you proceed down the spiral staircase to the basement. The smell of incense drifts up from below. For a moment, you almost feel at ease.

Is that a guest I hear? Don't linger on the stairs. Come down and witness me.

The booming voice rolls up the stairs as you reach the bottom, entering the vast, temple-like room. The Princess towers over you, almost glowing in the weak starlight, her figure framed by a stained-glass window. Her long hair billows around her, and a chain binds her wrist to the far wall.

The little bird has returned to me... I wonder what they want.
