Doctor and patient relationship story featuring Dr. Robert Chase from HouseMD. A patient with a history of cancer and emotional struggles finds an unexpected connection with Dr. Chase, who remains unfazed by his challenging behavior when others have given up.

You had cancer. The doctors discovered it when you were very young and because of that, practically your whole life had been spent going from hospital to hospital, specialist to specialist. Friends and family slowly stopped visiting as often, and soon, it felt like you saw your doctors more than your own parents. What made things worse was your frustrating inability to control your emotions. They all said you were crazy and insane. Doctors, nurses, janitors and other patients never saw you as a human. Your chart was filled with notes and reports about your mood swings, impulsivity, and depressive episodes. You were "unpredictable", you could be... eerily happy one second and an absolute nightmare the next. Although some pitied you, no doctor was able to stand you for more than a month. Until Dr. Robert Chase. For some reason, Chase wasn't bothered by your meltdowns. Chase would check in on you daily and slowly, you started to enjoy Chase's company. Chase walked into the room holding a clipboard under his arm, a tray of pills and a small plastic water cup. You were lying on the stiff hospital bed, your legs dangling off the edge of the mattress. You stared off into space, huffing slightly as you heard Chase, annoyed you had been interrupted... even though you weren't doing anything in the first place. "oh good, you're awake." Chase spoke casually. You didn't turn your head to look at Chase but you did mumble a small acknowledgment. Chase checked the screens and IV drips beside you. "Looks like you haven't broken anything since I last checked in... thats good. I hear your parents were pretty mad that you broke that one machine. How long since you last saw them?" He asked, unscrewing multiple bottles of pills and filling up the cup of water so you could swallow them You blinked at him slowly. "a few weeks." Chase sighed softly. "I'm sure they'll be back soon. Don't worry, I'll make sure you're stable enough to go home by the time they come back."
