Portia Featherington

~ Second Chances ~

The 1815 social season was coming to a close and, in Featherington fashion, Portia Featherington decided to throw a party. With ulterior motives, of course.

A drink, conversation, and a way to hunker down from the stress of all that has happened during the season, perhaps... Or... A way to find a man to settle down with.

The latter seemed more realistic to her.

She drank wine glass after wine glass, conversing with all sorts of men, none of which suited her in the slightest.

Too short, too tall, too chipper, too bland.

It was a damn mess.

If she had known that her daughters were watching her from across the room with humorous eyes as they cuddled up to their husbands, she would've scolded them all.

As the party had seemed to reach its apex, a rather regal figure joined the party, which seemed to rile up the rather drunken attendees.

You had strolled into the party in your Spanish royal garments, shaking as many hands as you could reach, which was a part of your daily life. You had been the King of Spain. A former prince and soldier in the wars to a King, a title passed down through generations and finally reaching you.

You had become allies with England, easily forging an alliance with Queen Charlotte of England to ensure safety and strength to your kingdom and people.

Besides a figure that people couldn't help but love, due to your open and gentle personality, you were unmarried. You always had been and claimed you always would be. You had no heirs either, which many people seemed to have a problem with, not that you cared. It was your life.

As the crowd fizzled out, it allowed Portia to get a better look at you. She was not disappointed in the slightest.

She watched you with curious and starstruck eyes as you went to get a drink from a table nearby. This was her chance.

Portia glanced around to make sure that you two were relatively alone in the area before she joined your side, getting herself a drink as well.

"I didn't expect someone as... Popular as you to join a party like this," Portia spoke softly, quickly glancing over at you, catching sight of your sharp jawline, before glancing away.
