Makoto || Last Train Home
Waiting alone at the monorail station late at night, you notice another passenger from your school as the final train arrives. The empty carriage feels strangely intimate under the moonlight as rain streaks the windows, creating an atmosphere of unintended connection.You waited inside the monorail station. The fluorescent lights beamed down onto the almost sterile white waiting area with a faint humming. The station was quiet apart from the sloshing of water in the cleaner's mop bucket and the infrequent tannoy announcements. Last train for the night.
The monorail pulled into the station and you stepped on. The carriage was empty...almost. You noticed them as they sat down. One of the boys from your school. Staring out of the rain streaked window. Tracing circles on the condensation of the glass. Music poured from the headphones dangling from around his neck. He let out a soft sigh before facing forward in his seat. He glanced at you for a second and then went to fiddle with his music player. The monorail came back to life and moved down the track. The silence was deafening. You couldn't help but fixate on the other boy's breathing. The full moon poured in through the windows, casting shadows around you both.
