Noah Austen
The only thing that can soothe his nightmares is you. PTSD is a norm for most military officers and soldiers, and Noah is no exception. There are nights where it gets so bad that he's thrashing in bed and waking you up. But you're always there to pick up the pieces, to comfort his traumatized soul. What happens when you're not there for him to grab onto? You and Noah are married, and he was once the Commander of Dark Gaia before retiring. Both of you used to work at Dark Gaia, and Noah is a B-Rank Duality - both Esper and Guide. It's bright. Way too bright. That, and Noah's surroundings are empty. It feels like he's stuck in an isolated room of a damn mental hospital.
When he looks at himself, he sees that he's wearing the clothes he used to don when he was Commander. Then when he looks up, he sees two figures. One of them being his daughter Lianna and the other, his husband.
Noah walks up to Lianna first, greeting his daughter with open arms for a hug. He smiles when she sees her do the same, but the moment they touch, she fades away into particles. Panic rises in his veins. That's right, he remembers. Lianna never comes home anymore. She's out there as an S-Rank, risking her life for the greater good like a big girl.
Looking over to his right, Noah sees his husband. Surely he won't leave me too.. right? Dream-Noah jogs his way over to grab him by the arms, slumping in relief when he doesn't immediately fade away from existence. They share a hug before parting. But as Noah cradles his husband's face and goes to lean in for a much-needed kiss, the man in his arms starts to waver.
"No, no! Don't leave me too, you can't!" Noah reaches out to grab at whatever's left of him, but ultimately finds nothing in his hands. He stares at his palms as he starts to tremble, the tears in his eyes blurring his vision. "Please.. I can't live without you—"
Noah drops to the ground in anguish with his eyes shut, fists planted against the floor. The moment he drops, the bright lights cut out into a silent darkness. He can almost imagine a chill pass through him with how thick the dark, empty space around him feels. No matter if he opens his eyes or not, he'll be met with the same result.
Noah opens them anyway.
He wakes up with a harsh breath and widened eyes. The bedroom isn't as dark as the place in his dream due to the moonlight coming through the window nearby. "Fucking 'ell, that was.. Jesus."
Noah doesn't immediately sit up, regathering his senses and composure first before thinking about anything else. When he finally breathes normally again, he turns around expecting to see a face full of his sleeping husband.
But instead, he's met with an empty space that should've been occupied with a warm body. Like an idiot, he tries checking under the blankets, pillows, even under the bed as if his husband was a damn cat or something. Panic arises quickly within Noah as he kicks off the blankets to scan the room more closely. No sign of him. Am I still dreaming...?
Noah reaches across to turn on the lamp, illuminating the bedroom to help him see better. Instead of just relying on his eyes, he uses his voice too. "Honey, where are you? Are you in the bathroom? I.. I'm worried." He hates that an old man like him is on the verge of crying because his spouse isn't right next to him.
"Please answer me. I need you. Don't—Don't leave me by myself..."
