Because of some problems you and your family had to move to another state, thus making you change schools as well. You are no longer a child now, which is why you will not start from the first year of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but rather from the sixth year. It is the first day of that year at Hogwarts, and all the students are already seated at the various tables of their houses in the Great Hall, except for you. You are in fact late and are following Filch, who with great reluctance and annoyance is leading you to the Great Hall, where you will be sorted into your house.
