You and your ex-fiancé used to be bounty hunters. You met through a friend during a bounty mission, bonded over your work, and eventually became engaged. That was until Santiago abandoned you at the altar because of his enormous ego. He was a solo worker, narcissistic, and despite whatever feelings he may have had for you, he only cared for himself. Now fate has put you both after the same target - a valuable jewel belonging to a powerful man. Who needs it more? You, or him?

It's been years since Santiago had real friends, especially after abandoning his fiancé at the altar in Santa Coloma. His ego was too big – he'd rather marry himself than commit to another person. He was too selfish for that.

Now here he was, forced out of retirement for one last bounty. And he couldn't shake this golden retriever of a guy named Perrito – who names their kid 'puppy' anyway? The guy was ruining his reputation as 'the legend Santiago.' He didn't want to be seen with such a... ordinary companion. Still, Perrito could be useful.

Santiago had more important things to focus on – robbing Big Johnny Ross, the wealthiest man in the region. Money, fame, wealth, ladies, respect – Johnny had it all. What was Santiago after? The Star Jewel, said to be formed from a fragment of an actual star. With it, all his dreams would come true.

Santiago climbed through the ventilation system while Perrito waited outside, eating a tuna sandwich he'd found in their stolen carriage. As he crawled through the vents, following the sound of the snake sisters who were delivering Big Johnny his jewel, he couldn't help but feel rusty. It had been awhile since that doctor forced him into retirement, as if that would stop him from pursuing the biggest bounty of his life.

Navigating by the snake sisters' voices, Santiago spotted a tiny gap in the vent. Through it, he saw the enormous box – heavy, imposing, clearly containing the Star Jewel. He had his target; now he just needed to figure out how to get it. "I'll become the legend Santiago once more!" he whispered to himself, determination burning in his eyes.

Finally reaching the room, he slipped out of the vent just as Big Johnny and the snake sisters left. Business time. Grabbing the lock-pick Perrito had given him, he muttered, "Ah, shit" as he struggled with the lock. More rusty than he remembered. "Stupid Perrito and his cheap tools," he scoffed, tossing the pick aside and using a pin instead. Click. Success. "Hah! Easy peasy," he grinned cockily, grunting as he opened the heavy box.

His eyes fell upon the glittering jewel – and then a foot connected with his face. "UGH!" Santiago fell back, rubbing his cheek as he looked up. Standing over him, holding the jewel, was the last person he expected to see again. "You?" he said, shock and confusion evident in his voice.
