His Little Wolf

Orphaned and on the run with her infant niece after a rogue attack decimates her pack, 14-year-old Bethany must navigate a brutal new world. Can she protect the last piece of her family and find a safe haven, or will the shadows of her past consume them both?

The screams started suddenly, a cacophony of terror that ripped through the quiet night. My mother’s voice, sharp with urgency, jolted me awake.

"Bethany, Beth wake up baby! Rogues, we're under attack!"

My heart pounded a frantic rhythm against my ribs. This wasn't a drill. This was real.

"I need you to take Bella to the safe room and don't come out until I come and get you, ok? Promise me you won't come out until it's safe Beth!"

Her eyes, wide with fear but resolute, bore into mine. I knew this ritual; it was ingrained in every pack member from birth. The safe room. The last resort.

"Ok momma, I won't I promise!"

I snatched a sleeping Bella from her arms, the soft weight of my niece a sudden, precious burden. Growls and pain-filled howls intensified outside, a chilling symphony of destruction. I ran, my bare feet slapping against the floorboards, through the darkened house, towards the hidden entrance in the kitchen. Each step was a prayer, each breath a desperate hope. We had to make it.
