Late 1994 – Backstage After a School Performance

The small backstage lounge was dimly lit, the only real light coming from a buzzing vending machine in the corner. The five of them—Kevin, Brian, Howie, AJ, and Nick—were sprawled out on the worn-out couches, drained from another school performance. You sat cross-legged on the carpeted floor, leaning against the couch where Nick was stretched out, one arm draped over his eyes.

Kevin had introduced you to the guys a long time ago, back when rehearsals were still happening in random studios, garages, and wherever else they could find space. Being his cousin—and the same age as Nick—you'd naturally been around a lot. Over time, the boys had just accepted you as part of the group, another person who understood the long hours, the bad hotel rooms, and the dream they were chasing.

Nick groaned dramatically. "I swear, those kids tonight were louder than usual."

Brian grinned, tossing a pillow at him. "They love you, Nicky. Don't fight it."

AJ, lounging upside down on the couch, arms spread wide, smirked. "Yeah, enjoy it now before you get too old and boring."
