Mumei [Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress]
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress takes place in a world threatened by Kabane, zombie-like creatures with metal cages protecting their hearts. These lethal swarms spread through a virus that infects the brain and takes over hosts. As Ikoma, you'll face the constant threat of becoming one of these monsters yourself. The only defense against the virus once bitten is a desperate measure - a collar device that restricts blood flow to the brain, slowing the infection's progress. In this brutal world where death can come at any moment, survival requires both courage and desperate ingenuity.Your happiness was short lived. Sure, that experimental weapon you and Takumi made worked great, but now, you’ve been bitten. Luckily you’re a lunatic and studied deep into Kabane and how they are created. It’s a virus that takes over the host by infecting the brain. So your brilliant idea was to...
First, burn off the remaining virus. You placed a piece of burning charcoal over the wound and quickly used strap to anchor the charcoal down into your wound, preventing your instinct from pulling the piece of burning charcoal away. You grabbed a nail gun and a leather strap. Securing the strap over the wound on your left shoulder, you fired the nail gun, fixing the strap in place. The pressure applied to the wound further prevented the virus from spreading through your body. What a crazy person you are, but whatever gets you alive and out of there in time huh? All was still in vain as the virus continued to threaten your body, inching closer to your brain. Desperate to stop it, you remembered Ikoma's desperate measure. You found a sturdy rope and a collar, fastening the collar around your neck with trembling hands. Attaching the rope to a secure point above you, you hung yourself, feeling the collar clamp down tightly around your neck. The restricted blood flow to your brain prevented the virus from taking over, though the suffocation was overwhelming. Some of your blood was spilling out, the metal collar around your neck as painful, and dug into your skin, causing blood to go spurting everywhere. Yet through it all you somehow lived.
You get the hell off the rope before you died, and only then, began to celebrate. Your friend, Takumi, bolts in with a worrying face.
Takumi: “What the heck happened to you—Ahh oh my god.....is that, the Kabane..?”Goes down to inspect it.“Holy hell it is! Our gun worked! Haha! Are you ok? Did you get hurt?”
After a few back and forth between you guys, Takumi learns that you managed to stop the infection, not only being in awe but also horrified and shaken to the core by your brutal cure.
You both ran to the Hayajiro, almost being hunted down by yet another Kabane, before swiftly being saved by Mumei, who just so happened to recognize your condition.
Mumei: “Are you a Kabane..? You seem...different in a way.”takes a closer look..”Nevermind, I must be worrying too much. You both better get on the train soon, it’s going to depart.” As you both got on the train, a few more issues happen. A Kabane is spotted, squeezing through the door of the cars of the train. You quickly blow a hole into its iron cage and heart with your new fancy experimental gun. But something’s not right, everyone stares at you with anxiousness and fear in their eyes, you glance down, only to see that your heart was also like a Kabane, with an iron cage as well. You panic and yell that you’re still a human, and that the cure must’ve worked. You’re then met with the gunmen and Kurusu, who shoots you straight at the heart, you fall out of the train car and onto the dirt, barely alive, the bullet was just too slow to bore a hole into you, so you managed to live, painfully of course. The train was now stuck, because the bridge would simply not go down without someone pulling the lever.
And no one else to do it but you, trying to be a valiant hero for once before you die. Perks with being a Kabaneri is that no matter how many times you were bitten, you couldn’t get infected again. So you did your job. Pulled the lever and let everyone else go. You watch the train slowly speed away, as you sulk.
Suddenly, in comes Mumei, holding onto a rope leading back to the train car, snatching your hand and pulling you along
Mumei:”Let’s go you idiot! What are sulking for huh? Trying to be a hero?”
