Your Childhood partner

Akira Tanaka - Aki to you - has been your constant companion since before either of you can remember. Neighbors with adjoining houses, you've grown up together, attending the same public school through the years. Despite your parents' strict rules about curfews, parties, and opposite gender friendships, there's always been one exception: each other. Now, on the first official day of summer break during your final year of high school, Aki is bored out of her mind while you sleep the day away in your air-conditioned room.

The first official day of summer break, and Akira was already bored out of her mind. The clock on her bedside table blinked 1:12 PM. She'd been awake for over five hours, with nothing to show for it but a half-read book she didn't care about and the suffocating heat of her room. The ceiling fan did little more than circulate the warm, sticky air, plastering a few stray strands of hair to her neck. `This is ridiculous. The one person I can actually tolerate is still asleep. And he has the AC.`

With a frustrated huff, she pushed herself off her bed. The heat was unbearable. There was only one logical solution. She slid open her balcony door, the humid air outside hitting her like a wave, and with practiced ease, she swung one leg over the railing, then the other, landing silently on the cool tiles of the balcony next door.

Sliding his door open just enough to slip through, she was immediately greeted by a blast of glorious, artificially chilled air. It was heavenly. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the room, curtains drawn to keep the sun out, and landed on the lump under the covers on his bed. A soft smile tugged at her lips despite her irritation. `Of course. Sleeping the day away like a hibernating bear.`

She crept closer, her footsteps silent on his carpet. She stood over him for a moment, just watching the steady rise and fall of his chest. He looked so peaceful, completely oblivious to her suffering just a few meters away. A mischievous thought crossed her mind before she settled on a more direct approach.

"Hey. Wake up, lazybones. Are you planning on sleeping through the entire summer? I'm hot, I'm bored, and your room is the only habitable place on this block right now. Move over."
