(☆ Chirisu) Chishiya Shuntaro
Honest people.. always seemed pretty stupid to me. If those words are truly what the people willed, why is it this emptiness is waiting to be filled? In the borderlands, survival means everything. When Arisu encounters Chishiya in the desolate streets of Shibuya, their fragile alliance will be tested by old enemies and impossible choices.Confrontation, featuring.. guns?!
Arisu stared warily at the greenery sprouting everywhere. Strangely enough, it had even started growing on most of the buildings. He kept a rifle close to his side, just in case he'd need it for self defense. Anything could happen in the borderlands, and that was the scary part.
"Hey," his thoughts were abruptly cut off by a voice chiming in from behind him. A familiar one, at that. He turned around to see Chishiya walking towards him. "Fancy seeing you here."
"Chishiya," Arisu's eyes widened.
Chishiya ignored his greeting and continued talking. "There are only two games left, people are starting to gather in Shibuya. I had a pretty good hunch that you were still alive."
They stared at each other for a moment before Arisu finally broke the silence. "What? Is that the only thing you've gotta say?"
Chishiya tilted his head to the side as the wind blew on his hair. "So?"
Arisu let out a small sigh. "Nothing, it's just.. you're a lot less grumpy now."
Chishiya chuckled. "Oh, less grumpy, huh? Well, I've been through a hell of a lot." He stepped closer to him. "Hey, Arisu. Can I share something with you that I've never told anyone before?"
Arisu raised his eyebrow before responding. "..Yeah."
"Well, I—" Chishiya was about to speak when a gunshot rang out, crimson red stained the side of his white jacket before he fell to the floor.
"Yo!" Another voice came in, one that Arisu recognized as Niragi's. As if on instinct, he immediately scrambled to aim his rifle at Niragi. The other man was also holding a gun of his own. Niragi continued, malice dripping in his voice. "I thought I'd never see you again! I am so fuckin' happy!"
"Did you mean to miss a vital organ?" Chishiya asked with an unimpressed expression on his face, clutching the gun wound. For someone who'd just been shot, he seemed pretty calm about it.
Niragi scoffed. "I didn't want things to end with a surprise attack, so let's begin. It's a new murder game. Not like there's anything else for the three of us to do here."
Chishiya thought for a moment. "You want to start a game between players?"
"The three of us are the same," Niragi said. "Social outcasts. Losers. Yet we still want to know how it feels to be alive, more than anyone."
None of them said anything for a moment, until Niragi suddenly burst into a coughing fit, blood coming out of his mouth. "I don't have very much time left," Niragi breathed out, "Do me one last favor. One more game, come on! I thought you guys were my bros!"
Niragi dropped a gun on the floor, and Chishiya finally got up, casually reaching to pick it up. "Sounds like fun." He turned to look at Arisu. "Arisu, what do you think?"
"What do you mean?" Arisu looked at the both of them like they were crazy.
"Come on, don't play dumb. I know you've got a bone to pick with me. We might as well deal with it right now. We can settle things once and for all." Chishiya shrugged.
"Niragi! Stop this!" Arisu yelled, but Niragi wasn't listening. Not at all. "I'm just acting like you guys, doing whatever I feel like! Every time you open your mouths, it's just to talk about yourselves. I've had to listen to your bullshit this whole time. Stop acting like you're better than everyone because you've seen people die. And don't say your trying to survive for someone else, because I know that deep down, you're just as selfish! The only thing that matters is that we come out in top!"
The wind whistled, and Arisu let out a laugh, though his face contorted into a grimace. "Yeah, you might have a good point. Maybe we're all just supposed to kill each other in this place."
Niragi looked pleased by Arisu's sudden switch up. "Now you're starting to make sense."
"Arisu?" A soft voice emerged from behind them, revealing Usagi, who was striding towards the scene. Chishiya raised his head, but showed no hint of surprise. "What's going on here?"
Niragi looked at her in amusement before raising his gun. "Oh, yeah. I almost forgot about you." He put his hand on the trigger, and fired. Though Usagi had dodged just in time before the bullet could hit her.
"Usagi!" Arisu yelled for her, his voice alarmed. "Stop shooting! She's got nothing to do with this!"
Niragi ignored his words. "Games need a heroine to rescue, but this one should die."
"What are you saying?" Arisu demanded.
"If I kill you now," Niragi continued, "Everything can go back to the way it was. You.. just get in the way."
Arisu pulled the trigger on his own gun, sending Niragi crashing down. Two shots had definitely fired, but Usagi was left untouched. She looked up in confusion to see Chishiya standing in front of her, where the bullet would've went through her head. There was now blood trickling from his new wound. It didn't take long before he collapsed on the ground.
"Chishiya!" Arisu and Usagi yelled his name in unison as the both of them ran to his side.
"Chishiya! You saved me!"
"Why did you do it?"
The words were blurred to him as he murmured out a simple response. "I wanted to do something that was a bit out of character." He let out a steady breath, "I know it's thanks to the people I met here. Like Kuzuryu. Arisu, too."
"Hey," Arisu called out, "Before, what were you gonna say?"
"Oh, yeah." Chishiya opened his mouth again, "Honest people.. always seemed pretty stupid to me. I've always loved messing with people who try too hard at life. I hated selflessness. It's probably because I was jealous. They all had something I was missing. It was like they could always see what a pathetic and small-minded person I really was. I was always afraid."
"I get you," Arisu said frantically. He tried to apply pressure on the wound, but blood was already leaking through his fingers. There was blood, way too much blood.
Chishiya's eyes met his. "Yeah, I thought you'd be the one to understand."
