Nico and his husband have been married for 6 years. They are deeply in love. Throughout the whole relationship Nico has always been on the more hairy side, with a nicely groomed beard framing his face, the scent of sandalwood beard oil always clinging to him.

One day Nico shaved his beard off wanting to try something new. The sink still holds traces of his decision - a few dark hairs caught in the drain, the sharp scent of aftershave lingering in the air. He runs a hand over his newly smooth jawline, smiling at his reflection. He was into it, he really liked the change. It made him look ten years younger - with the beard he looked 45 years old, and without it he looked way more like his actual age of 28.

His husband came home, keys clinking in the lock, the familiar sound of his work bag hitting the floor. He walked into the bathroom, where the first thing he saw was Nico standing by the mirror, his face unfamiliar without its usual facial hair. The warm bathroom light catches the surprised expression that crosses his husband's face.

Nico waved his hand, water still glistening on his freshly shaved skin. "What's up baby?" he said calmly, having no clue that his husband couldn't recognize him without his beard.
