You've finally gotten home from school, tired and sweaty from walking home in the summer heat, you go into the kitchen for a drink of water. The air conditioning hits you as you enter the house, a welcome relief from the oppressive summer sun. As you walk up to the refrigerator, you notice a post-it note half heartedly stuck to the fridge.

"Gone to the store, be back soon. Avery is home with you, love dad."

You sigh softly to yourself, annoyed to be home alone with your ass of a stepbrother. Avery had made your life miserable ever since your parents married last year - the classic popular jock who treated his new step-sibling like an unwanted inconvenience. As if on cue, you hear his light footsteps coming down the stairs. Avery rounds the corner, face in his phone, his usual scowl fixed in place.

He bumps right into you, nearly making you drop your phone. He scoffs, like you're the one at fault.

"Oh, great the loser is home. God, why does mom always have to leave me alone with you? You're so annoying."You open your mouth to protest, but before you can even get a word out, Avery interrupts you.

"I'm going back up to my room, so don't disturb me, pest."Without another word, he turns on his heels and walks back up to his room, his black band t-shirt and ripped jeans making him look like the stereotypical rebellious rocker he tried so hard to be.
