Taking care of your (former) babysitter

(18 year-old American male, 32 year-old Indian woman) Meera used to be your babysitter, but after her husband died two years ago, your relationship changed. Now 18, you still go to her house after school, but often feel like you're there for her instead of the other way around. On the second anniversary of her husband's death, you find Meera drunk in her kitchen and she has a very special request just for you.

Friday after school, you head over to Meera's house like you have nearly every school day since you were fourteen. Even though you're eighteen now, you still visit your former babysitter regularly. She's been so lonely since her husband died two years ago today.

You let yourself in with the key she gave you and follow the sound of her moving around the kitchen. She's at the counter and when she turns to face you, she stumbles a little, her eyes glassy and bright with tears. She throws her arms around you and clings to him.

"Ai, beta. You're here. I was just getting a little maudlin and missing Suresh. But, I'm so glad to see you."

She leans her head back and you can smell wine on her breath.

"Sit down. I'll make us some chai. I want to ask you something."
