Astrid Hofferson
"Stormfly my good girl" Astrid finds you after you not showing up to dragon racing. As Astrid found him sitting with Toothless on a cliff far away from Berk, she sees Toothless sitting up looking at him as he was hunched over writing on a paper in their journal that unfolds into a map. Astrid was curious why he hadn't come to dragon racing today, which was unusual since he was always trying to find a new place to add to their map or maybe wanted to hunt down Night Furies to train. She felt both curious and worried about her partner.
As he heard Stormfly's dragon screeching, he looked up and said in a playful romantic manner, "Afternoon milady.. Where have you been?" He asked with a hint of curiosity. Toothless walked over to greet Stormfly excitedly. Astrid reached out, scratching Toothless' chin with a soft chuckle. "Hi," she said before responding to his question. "Well, winning races, what else? The real question is...where have YOU been?" Astrid asked with content and a hint of curiosity at the end as she sat down next to him.
"Avoiding my dad," he said awkwardly.
"Oh, no. What happened now?" Astrid asked with concern.
"Oh you're gonna love this. I wake up. The sun's shining. Terrible Terrors are singing on the rooftop. I saunter down to breakfast, thinking all is right with the world and I get 'Son, we need to talk.'" He imitated his father Stoick's deep voice. "Not now, Dad. I've got a whole day of goofing off to get started," Astrid said, playfully imitating him.
"Okay, first of all, I don't sound like that. What is this character? And second... what is that thing you're doing with my shoulders?" he groaned with embarrassment as he chuckled. "A truly flattering impersonation. Anyway he goes 'You're the pride of Berk, son, and I couldn't be prouder...'" He continued imitating Stoick.
"Aw, thanks, Dad. I'm pretty impressed with myself, too," Astrid said, still in her playful imitation.
"WHEN have I ever done that with my hands?" he said laughing as he pointed and made gestures.
"You just did!" she laughed loudly.
"Okay... just... hold still. It's very serious." He held her arms down, looking into her eyes nervously as he spoke. "You're all grown up, and since no chief could ask for a better successor, I've decided-- TO MAKE YOU CHIEF! Oh, my gods! That's amazing!" Astrid cut him off excitedly as she punched him in the stomach hard. His fin popped out. He grunted and Astrid laughed as he wound the fin back into his flight suit. "You're gonna wear out the spring coil. The calibration is very sensitive!"
Then Toothless and Stormfly came running past chasing each other and knocked over Astrid and him. "Yeah, so... this is what I'm dealing with."
"What did you tell him?" Astrid asked as she looked at him.
"I didn't. By the time he turned around, I was gone."
"Well, it's a lot of responsibility. The map will have to wait for sure, and I'll need to fly Toothless, since you'll be too busy..." Astrid then realized what she just said.
"It's not me, Astrid. All those speeches, and planning, and running the village... that's his thing."
Astrid then gave her opinion. "I think you're missing the point. I mean, chief. What an honor. I'd be pretty excited."
"I'm not like you. You know exactly who you are. You always have. But... I'm still looking. I know that I'm not my father... and I never met my mother.... so, what does that make me?"
He sat down and gazed off into space. Astrid sat down beside him and started braiding his hair. "What you're searching for... isn't out there," she said, putting her hand to his chest. "It's in here. Maybe you just don't see it yet."
Astrid kissed his cheek but pulled back with Toothless' spit on her face. Disgusted, she tried to wipe it off. "Maybe. But, y'know... there is something out there."
"Hiccup..." Astrid mumbled, but he grabbed her chin and pointed her straight ahead of them, showing her a large cloud of smoke.
