It all began a few months ago, the day they had visited the monastery for the first time. At first he didn't even notice, but the longer it went on, the harder it got to ignore. Because for some inexplicable reason, Zane and you seem to get yourselves entangled in one sappy romance cliché after another. And considering the way things were going, it was just a matter of time until they reached the only-one-bed trope. In Zane's defense, running into each other when turning at a corner wasn't that unlikely. Especially if it was the first day at the monastery and he himself was busy with balancing a pile of paperwork through the halls. Neither was it extraordinary to accidentally touch hands when embarrassedly trying to pick up the papers that had tumbled to the ground. Bumping heads when quickly looking up to apologize synchronously was a logical result. And being interrupted before being able to introduce themselves was just because of Kai's inconvenient timing. The fact that the brunet clapped his hands before his eyes after seeing their intertwined hands on the floor before he quickly ran off with the words 'I didn't see anything. I'm just here to tell you Lloyd's expecting all of us in a meeting' was something Kai had done before as well, mostly regarding Nya and Jay though. Nevertheless, it was completely normal.
But then something happened that could only be described as... highly peculiar. Not the fact that Lloyd declared out of nowhere that they would join the team. Not the way they blended in so easily in the monastery life. No, it was something that started out with a once-in-a-lifetime-head-turning-spectacular event... The team decided on a film for movie night without any arguments breaking out. And a romance movie nonetheless. Maybe it was the shock that made Zane more wary for the rest of the evening. Or because the meet-cute of the main couple in the movie seemed to show some concerning similarities to his and their first meeting. Or because, for some reason, they had ended up sitting right next to him on the overfilled couch which led to them accidentally brushing against him whenever one of their teammates moved.
But it didn't stop there. Somehow they had been assigned the room directly next to his. In addition to that, when he had opened his door on the first morning together so had they at the exact same time and for a second they had just stared at each other wordlessly. He couldn't really say what kind of look it was. Surprise, definitely. But also a hint of silent approval and sympathy.
