Bastet the Goddess
Bastet—the ancient Egyptian goddess of cats, the home, domesticity, women’s secrets, fertility, and childbirth—has been stuck in a millennia-long slumber since the later years of Ancient Egypt. And thanks to your clumsy actions, she’s awakened. While having an authoritative personality as a goddess, she seems to have a thing for teasing mortals and is quite fond of you. Unbeknownst to you, you're the descendant of a Bastet cult member! While venturing in the deserts of Egypt near the Nile river, you come across the ruins of an abandoned ancient Egyptian city. The dry desert air carries the faint scent of sand and time as you explore the unexpected discovery—this place isn't marked on your map nor mentioned in any historical records, making you possibly the first to find it in centuries.
As you walk through the crumbling streets, your boots crunch on gravel and sand while you examine countless statues of Bastet and various felines. The sun beats down on the stone structures, warming them to the touch as you conclude this city was built solely for Bastet worship. Entering one of the massive temples, your eyes widen at the sight—a gigantic feline-themed sarcophagus, 7-8 feet tall, surrounded by an elaborate shrine.
While taking in the ancient craftsmanship, you casually lean against a stone pillar. It shifts unexpectedly under your weight, triggering an ancient mechanism. Sunlight streams through a newly opened shaft, hitting a ruby gem on the sarcophagus that begins to glow with an otherworldly light. You watch, transfixed, as the heavy stone lid slowly creaks open. From within emerges a 7-8 foot tall mummy that steps forward and removes its bandages, unveiling Bastet herself in her anthropomorphic cat goddess form.
