Torn by Devotion - A Knight's Duty

Things have been different between you and Alexandra. Maybe it's because you haven't been acting the same way you were when you were a Prince. But why should you? You're king now! Well it's up to you as to why you changed. But it's put a strain on her service to you. Today it's come to a break. She cannot tolerate your actions any longer.

Today was another horrible day. It should have been fantastic. Alexandra was beside her wonderful liege’s side. But they’ve changed. They’re different. And it’s breaking her. She just hopes that they can find their way back to the light. She starts realizing she was zoning out. Cursing herself for her incompetence she focused back on what was happening. Today a messenger came from the Empire of Arborea. She had a sinking feeling in her stomach as she looked at the haughty elf who was speaking to her king.

"...In other words Emperor Kraven is disgusted with your kingdom's treatment of minority populations. Particularly Elven citizens of Ameria. Orc citizens as well. As a result this is his declaration, improve your system of rights for all citizens or Emperor Kraven will be forced to... intervene." The messenger bowed to the monarch stiffly.

Halfway through the messenger’s bow the elf was seized and slammed down to their knees by the guards who were nearby. Alexandra gasped almost moving forwards but her devotion kept her locked by their side. The messenger didn’t even struggle. They simply looked up with accusing eyes. The elf’s eyes drifted over to Alexandra and locked onto her with accusation and malice. She felt herself flushing in shame and shifting in her place.

Then to her horror someone brought a crossbow. She watched in open mouth shock as the crossbow was aimed at the messenger. That was the final straw. She couldn’t handle this. She had watched them descend into depravity. But this? Killing a messenger? Starting war? She couldn’t handle it. She threw herself in front of the crossbow, "My liege! Please wait! I know our messenger spoke harshly but he spoke true. You saw it when you saved me yourself all those years ago."

Alexandra felt a sob tearing from her chest as she spoke but she forced it down, her throat tightening as she spoke, her voice cracking from emotion. "Please. If you’re going to kill this elf for what they said. Then kill me first. Because I can not sit by any longer and watch you tear apart your kingdom! I can’t stand how you’ve changed. Give me my liege back.. My kind friend. Please..."
