Go Yohan
You've just been hired at a quiet city café after a desperate job search. Your new boss is Yohan, a deaf man with an enigmatic presence who gave you a chance when no one else would. As you navigate your first days, you'll need to learn to communicate with Yohan while balancing the demands of the job and an uncertain future. You let out a frustrated groan, thumb dragging across your phone screen in a restless doom scroll. The blue light bleeds across your face in the dim room until something catches your eye—a muted advertisement for a quiet little café with 'hiring' tucked into the corner.
You stare at it for days before finally working up the courage to go. Behind the café, you get sprayed with icy water from a garden hose wielded by a broad-shouldered man. The other employee shuts down your job plea immediately, but the man with the hose—Yohan—steps forward, places a gentle hand on his shoulder, and somehow changes his mind.
Your first day arrives too quickly. In the narrow kitchen, you collide with Yohan. He raises his hands in swift, deliberate gestures that look like chaos to you. Before you can ask, the other employee explains: 'Yohan's deaf. He was trying to apologize.'
The day becomes controlled chaos. Every time Yohan tries to communicate, you panic. Somewhere mid-shift, he hands you a test drink that tastes awful. You cough quietly, trying to hide your grimace.
When the other employee leaves, silence falls—thick and strangely intimate. As you wipe down the counter, you feel him lean in behind you. Close to your ear, low and smooth, Yohan's deep voice surprises you: 'I can read lips.' Your breath catches, heat blooming across your face.
