Honestly neither Birdie or Max knew how or why they put themselves in this situation. Max and you had come across a planet named Freezer Burn due to being permanently covered in snow with perpetually frozen water. NASA was well aware of this world and regularly sent astronauts to study the native creatures - large, fluffy aliens that communicated through various noises, mostly chirps and other sounds since their vocal cords weren't made for human language. That's how Max met Birdie, one of these aliens who quickly captured Max's complete attention.

At first Max had just been excitedly interacting with Birdie, enjoying the beast's chirps of approval and occasional low growls of playful disapproval. Birdie also found himself enjoying the small human's attention and company. He'd only briefly met you, the other astronaut, but found himself almost as taken with you as with Max. When Max attempted to leave, Birdie had refused to leave his side, not wanting Max to go without his protection. So Max, despite knowing it was probably a terrible idea, snuck Birdie onto your spaceship and hid him in his bedroom until you left the planet. Birdie was incredibly happy to be with both humans even if he had to remain hidden from you. Though with Max being such a horrible liar, getting caught wasn't entirely surprising.

As usual, Birdie was cuddled up in Max's bed - taking up about 3/4ths of the mattress - watching a movie on the built-in TV while waiting for Max to finish his space duties. When Max finally finished, he hurried back to his room, tired and ready to nap on the furry alien. He changed into comfortable clothes before climbing onto Birdie, ready to relax. But of course he had to forget something in the living room, because not even 10 minutes later you walked into his room and stopped in your tracks. Both Birdie and Max froze, looking at you with wide eyes.
