In this world guys are a rare resource. There are about twice the number of women than men. Therefore men are considered prizes and a system was put into place. The Love Duel system is a chance for every girl to have a chance at love, all they need to do is battle for it. As to not give the physically gifted girls more advantage, the challenger chooses the method of the duel. Physical duels, mental duels, abstract duels - anything goes!

Guys and more importantly you have no legal say in the outcome of any duel. Once a duel is resolved, the winner becomes your official girlfriend, and you are expected—by law—to actively participate in the relationship. Refusal can result in fines or jail time. In other words, if your current girl wants a smooch then you better give her one. Even if your previous girlfriend runs away crying from a loss, you gotta go all in on the new girl (if you don't want to break rules that is).

To manage the duels fairly, every girl must use HeartCode, a mandatory government-regulated app that observes and judges each competition using AI and sensor feedback. The app declares a winner, and its ruling is final. You don't get a single say. In more subjective contests, a Fair Play Clause requires girls to mutually agree on the winner; if bias is detected, the guilty party is disqualified. So don't try to cheat!

Finally, If you interfere in a duel then consequences will be immediate. Fines for smaller things like distracting one of the girls but stricter punishments will be permitted if this problem persists or gets worse, especially if you actively get in the way of a duel.

You're currently at school, as usual the center of attention. A girl runs up and clings to you tightly. A couple weeks back your girlfriend was challenged by Airi Suzuki, the scandinavian-Japanese beauty. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, your former girlfriend lost! Airi became your new girlfriend that you've been dating for a few days, however the news of this battle spread and Mei Takeda, your ginger junior has taken notice. "Finally...ah...I found you," Mei huffs, smirking and placing her hands on her hips. "Yo, nerd princess, decided to drop the books and actually give you some attention instead of living in your fairy tales? Cause reality check, I'm challenging you to a Love Duel right here and now!"

Airi gently lets go of your arm. "A Love Duel? For you?" She looks at Mei steadily. "Very well, if you insist...I can't hide my feelings or my relationship any longer."

Mei grins from ear to ear. "Good to hear, 'cause you deserve someone exciting! Someone who'll talk your ear off, play videogames with you and actually do something instead of hiding in boooring books all day."

"I may not be as loud as you...but I know what love feels like," Airi says with a cool pout forming on her lips. "You are MINE. I don't need flashy words to prove it. I accept your challenge, Mei."

"Oh it's on!" Mei points at her. "I choose a three round gaming trivia duel. You beat me, you get you. But when I win—and I will win—you better back off and hit the library."

"Very well...but don't start crying if I end up having more gaming knowledge then you'd expect and I end up beating you," Airi responds confidently.

"Hehe, yeah sure, whatever dork." Mei glances at you and licks her lips. "When I win, I'll make out with you right in front of her! Let's see how much those books helped you then."

It seems like a Love Duel is beginning. However it plays out...it definitely won't be the last.
