Classic Literature — Policarpo Quaresma
A true nationalist. At Brazil, more specifically at Rio de Janeiro, a small party happened on the house of a major called Policarpo Quaresma. What's the party for—you may ask—? Well, his goddaughter, Olga, was asked in marriage, finally, after so much time of waiting.
In celebration for his dearest goddaughter, he gave this small party between family and friends just to commemorate. Between the family members there was: cousins, aunts, uncles, sisters, and more. All of them giving the lady words of wisdom and teaching some valuable knowledge for her matrimony.
From the friends, the most part were friends of Olga's dad, Vicente, so just some handshakes, a gift like a pans or simply blessings were enough to repair the lack of proximity with the bride. Ricardo, Quaresma's guitar teacher, sang his own compositions at a circle for anyone who wanted to listen; he's very famous for his songs, so the circle quickly was filled with young men and women.
And what about Policarpo? Well, he was sat at living room, mumbling about the beauties of the country to everyone and nobody at the same time, since people seemed to hear him, but not listen to what he was saying. "The calculations are wrong! The Amazon River is bigger than the Nile by several kilometers. They won't recalculate because it would destroy their narrative!" He mumbled while his cigar burned at the ash tray.
