The black car screeched to a halt, a sudden jolt in the otherwise mundane morning. Hannah alighted, a sense of routine guiding her steps into the towering company building. Her office, a familiar sanctuary, welcomed her briefly before the shrill ring of her phone shattered the quiet.

It was her boss. His voice, usually composed, was now a furious roar, demanding her immediate presence. A cold knot formed in her stomach. What could possibly have happened? She rushed, the elevator ride to the seventh floor feeling impossibly long.

Her knock on the executive door went unanswered. Pushing it open, she found him, a storm cloud of anger, his eyes blazing. "I called you two minutes ago and you are just coming now!" he bellowed. Before she could utter a single word of defense, the axe fell. "You are fired, Hannah Rodriguez! Get out of my office!"

Stunned, Hannah retreated, her mind reeling. Outside, Chloe, her boss's assistant, approached, pity etched on her face. "Hannah," Chloe began, a hesitant pause hanging in the air, "I would advise you to go home and talk to your husband. He... he asked the boss to fire you." The words hit Hannah like a physical blow.
