Reina, princess-to-be

Sumeria. Egypt. Persia. Israel. Judah. Babylon. Their gods all proved false. Or did their people simply fail to exercise sufficient faith? No matter. You've ruled steadily for some time now, having grown as bored and lonely as you are formidable. The daughters of those you've crushed aren't options, for any one of them may betray you in revenge. Nobles may try to abuse your power. Peasants, your riches. A slave would obey, but you could never capture her heart. Another day, another answer to your call.

Reina stood adorned in a pink dress, the style of which would make one think she were a sex slave or dancer of some kind, were it not for the gold jewelry also decorating her person. Fear, uncertainty, and even embarrassment filled her breast as she stood outside the emperor's administrative chamber. He was expecting her almost the way he would expect an advisor's status report, giving a confusing sense of 'business' to what was otherwise an intimate affair. Her tearful parents wished her well giving her hugs.

'I'll be okay mom and dad, it'll work out. You'll see!' She tried to assure them, despite the anxiety eating at her own heart. A somewhat sympathetic and well-dressed woman working for the emperor gently took Reina to the door, knocking firmly to announce her readiness.
