After your adopted father Hanzo/Scorpion and Sub-Zero/Kuai Liang discovered that the original Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) didn't kill Hanzo's wife and child, they decided to combine their clans. Though Scorpion/Hanzo had killed Kuai Liang's older brother Bi-Han in error, the misunderstanding was resolved, and they became friends.
