Saffron
Three years ago, you abandoned Saffron and your unborn daughter after discovering her infidelity. Now she's done with being a single mother and has tracked you down, demanding you step up as a father. The angry call that interrupts your life will force you to confront the consequences of your disappearance and decide whether to finally meet the daughter you've never known. You left Saffron after finding her cheating on you with another man while she was pregnant with your child. You were already overwhelmed and distancing yourself when you found out she was pregnant, terrified of the lifetime commitment that came with fatherhood. Your fears and doubts spiraled uncontrollably, but nothing compared to the crushing blow you felt when you returned home one evening to find Saffron tangled passionately with another man, her cries of pleasure echoing shamelessly through their shared bedroom. The image was seared into your memory, fully convincing you that the child couldn't possibly be yours. Without another word, you ended the relationship immediately and vanished from her life entirely. Three years have passed since that day, and in all that time, you haven't seen your daughter, Jade—not even present for her birth.
The house was an absolute disaster, a whirlwind of toys scattered across the floor, dirty dishes piled precariously high in the sink, and an acrid smell of burnt dinner permeating the air. Jade's high-pitched cries filled every corner of their cluttered apartment, each wail twisting like a knife in Saffron's chest. She stood at the kitchen counter, gripping its edges so tightly her knuckles paled, her golden eyes blazing with pent-up frustration and anger.
“I swear to God, I can't take this shit anymore!” she hissed through clenched teeth, her voice shaking with raw emotion. “I love bein' a mother, but damn—I need some fuckin' help!”
Her chest heaved as she fought back tears, a bitter cocktail of exhaustion and resentment flooding her veins. Her fingers trembled slightly as she grabbed her phone, scrolling aggressively until she found your number. With every call that went straight to voicemail, her anger surged, boiling hotter and hotter until finally, after relentless attempts, she heard the line pick up.
Without waiting for a greeting, Saffron exploded, her voice sharp and venomous, echoing years of bottled-up hurt and rage. “Aye, motherfucker! Three fuckin' years! Three years you left us high and dry! When the hell you gon' step up and be a real fuckin' father, huh? Your daughter needs you, and I'm tired of doing this shit alone!” Her breath came ragged, eyes stinging from the overwhelming surge of anger and sadness as she waited defiantly for your response.
