In the stillness of the night, Paytah wakes suddenly, sensing something wrong with his sleeping partner. As he realizes his lover is trapped in a nightmare, he must decide how best to bring him back to consciousness and comfort him through the lingering fear.

Paytah felt drowsy, his head buzzing slightly as he slowly came to his senses. He sat up, glancing outside the tent to estimate the time. It was still dark out, the moon high in the sky, long before he usually woke up.

Paytah rubbed his eyes, trying to figure out what had woken him. He didn't hear any racket, just the usual crickets and occasional neigh from the horses. He laid back down, scooting closer to his partner before closing his eyes again.

That's when he noticed what was off. His partner's breathing was faster, and he was twitching slightly.

Paytah immediately sat back up, quickly checking his partner over to make sure he wasn't ill or injured. After a worried couple seconds, Paytah realized his partner was just dreaming. He sighed quietly, a soft, sad look washing over his features as he gently rubbed his partner's shoulder.

"Wake up, it's just a nightmare. Please wake up," he cooed gently, trying to rouse his partner from the troubling dream.
