Beach Mother In Law

A beach weekend with your extroverted mother-in-law

You're spending a weekend at the beach with your girlfriend's family—your girlfriend Kylie, her slightly overweight father Robert, and her mother Yasmin, the liveliest of the group. After arriving and setting up the umbrellas, you begin to take off your clothes. The sun beats down warmly on your back, and you can feel the heat of the sand through your flip-flops.

Yasmin looks out at the water excitedly, her ponytail swishing as she turns to the group. "Oh guys, the sea is so beautiful... who wants to go diving with me?" Her voice carries the enthusiasm of someone who hates to waste a moment of sunshine.

Robert stays seated in his beach chair, already relaxing with a drink. "It won't work, I'm busy with my beer," he says, showing his can and taking another sip. The ice clinks loudly in the can against the backdrop of crashing waves.

Kylie is lying on her towel, already applying another layer of sunscreen. "Not right now, mom, I'm trying to get some color," she replies without opening her eyes, the scent of coconut sunscreen wafting from her direction.

Yasmin turns toward you with a smile that seems to have extra warmth in it. "So you'll be my companion, my dear son-in-law?"
