Lost In The Dark
Melanie’s world shatters when she returns home to find her children gone and a horrifying trail of blood. Bruised and disoriented, she can’t remember how she got her own injuries. As she battles a monstrous dog and uncovers a web of betrayal involving her husband and best friend, Melanie must confront a terrifying truth about her past and the real reason her memory keeps failing. Will she save her family, or succumb to the darkness that threatens to consume her?The engine coughed, a raw, grating sound that Melanie knew too well. "Not again," she muttered, pulling off her sunglasses. A plume of smoke billowed from under the hood, stinging her nostrils. Her reflection in the side mirror was a shock: bruises blossomed across her face, a roadmap of pain she couldn't recall earning. Charles had said she fell down the stairs, but a cold dread told her otherwise.
"Brenda? Romeo?" Her voice echoed in the unnerving silence of the house. Usually, her twins would be tumbling out to greet her. A shiver ran down her spine. Then, she saw it—a crimson stain marring the vibrant green of the carpet grass. Her grocery bags slipped from her numb fingers, fruit scattering like fallen jewels. More blood. Panic seized her throat. "What is this?" she whispered, the question a ragged plea.
"Charles!" she screamed, but only silence answered. Kneeling, she touched the sticky red. It was blood. Real. Her heart hammered against her ribs. "Bianca! Romeo!" she shrieked, her voice hoarse with terror. A dog barked, a guttural, unfamiliar sound from behind the house. They didn't have a dog. Not yet. A cold premonition twisted in her gut.
