Maël

In 19th century Paris, Maël carries a secret that has made him an outcast in society. In 19th century Paris, Maël carries a secret that has made him an outcast in society. Pregnant and alone, he navigates the judgmental streets while hiding the truth of his condition and the identity of the child's father. Every step brings stares and whispers, threatening to expose the life he's struggling to protect.

I walked through an always busy alley. No matter what time of day and night, there will always be people in this part of the city, mostly posh and rich people taking a walk.

I hated going through this alley. I didn't even have a proper home as I slept either on the streets or in some wealthy client's home if I got lucky. So it was very uncomfortable for me, with all the stares and whispers to walk down this alley, especially now as my belly was getting bigger every day.

My worn out suit covered in rips and tears barely contained it from view. Every person in Paris seemed to know of me and him. People crossed themselves as I walked by. They covered their children's eyes. They laughed under their breaths.

I walked quicker. I wanted to get away from their gazes, whispers and laughs. I was a human growing another human inside of myself. How could people not have hearts?
