Creep
In a town where nothing ever happened, Jess's life was irrevocably shattered. A chance encounter with a 'creep' at a Blockbuster quickly spirals into a terrifying abduction, leaving her scarred but unbroken. Eight years later, just as she's built a new life, the shadow of her past returns. Will she find true freedom, or will the nightmare finally claim her?The clock on the classroom wall ticked relentlessly, its rhythm a monotonous counterpoint to Jess’s daydreaming. She stared at the whiteboard, the neat lines of text blurring into an indecipherable mess. A tap on her elbow brought her back, a folded note from Jackie, her best friend since forever.
“Let’s go get a movie and snacks for tonight. P.s. I invited Trevor. Don’t bitch, he already agreed so you can’t get out of it. XoXo.”
Jess crumpled the note, annoyed Jackie hadn’t even asked. Sixteen-year-old Jess usually wasn't bothered by boys, but Trevor made her cheeks flush. She glanced over her shoulder; he was staring. The bell shrieked, saving her. Jess brushed her stick-straight hair behind her ear, grabbed her bag, and bolted for the door. Halfway down the hall, Jackie, breathless, caught up.
“Hey, what’s with the mad dash, lady?” Jackie struggled to heave her bag onto her shoulder.
“You know I’m not supposed to have any boys over when my parents aren’t home, Jackie! You always get me in trouble. I just wanted to watch a movie in my pajamas, pig out and be comfortable.” Jess pouted all the way to the car.
“Oh, get off it, Jess.” Jackie rolled her eyes as she started her pearl-painted BMW. “You know your parents aren’t going to find out, they aren’t even in Colorado! Trevor is so obviously into you.” Jackie always thought she knew what was best for Jess, including who she should date.
