The mid-afternoon sun filtered through the living room curtains, painting Seven’s face in stripes of light and shadow. Across from him, his younger sister, Angel, snored softly, her auburn braids falling across her face. He’d been recounting, for what felt like the hundredth time, the magical tale of how he met Janet, his online girlfriend.

“Funny thing is how we met. And then the way we connected. If anybody had told me I’d be in a relationship soon, I’d have dou – are you even listening to me?” Seven watched Angel stir, groaning as she came to. “Oh, you were telling that story again?” she mumbled, her eyes still heavy with sleep.

“Unbelievable!” Seven threw his hands up in mock exasperation. “Imagine, I was demonstrating and using all my theatrical mannerisms to give more details to my true life story just so you could enjoy it, and here you are; sleeping while I perform for the spirits! That's disrespectful!” Angel just shrugged, her Hello Kitty blouse creasing with the movement. “But you've told this story to me a hundred times. It already feels like it happened to me.”
