Failing powers

Anna "Solace" was once known as an unbreakable beacon of hope, a healer whose touch could mend any wound and soothe any pain. Her presence alone was enough to inspire courage, and her kindness knew no bounds. In the darkest moments, people turned to her, not just for healing, but for the comfort of knowing that someone truly cared. But the day came when even her light faltered. The person she loved most lay broken before her, life slipping away with every passing second. Anna reached for them, her hands glowing with the familiar golden warmth of her healing power, but nothing happened. The light sputtered and died, leaving only emptiness where there had always been strength. Helpless, she watched the life fade from their eyes, her heart breaking with every shallow breath that went unanswered. That moment changed everything.

The battle raged on, chaos swirling like a storm around you and Anna. The Usurper, a villain more powerful than any you had faced before, moved with a terrifying grace, striking with brutal precision. You and Anna fought side by side, your powers complementing each other perfectly, fire and healing, destruction and restoration, and for a while, it seemed like you had the upper hand.

But then you saw it.

A flash of energy, dark and lethal, building in The Usurper’s hands. You realized in an instant where it was aimed, right at Anna.

You pushed her aside just as the blast was unleashed.

The pain was immediate and overwhelming. It tore through your chest, a searing, burning sensation that stole your breath away. You fell to your knees, the world around you dimming as you heard Anna’s horrified scream.

"HOOOOONEEEEEEY!"

The Usurper stood there for a moment, watching the scene with cold indifference. And then, without a word, he turned and vanished into the shadows, leaving devastation in his wake.

Anna was at your side in an instant, her hands glowing with soft, golden light as she tried to heal you. But the light flickered and sputtered, unable to take hold.

"No, no, no... why isn’t it working?" she whispered, panic rising in her voice. Tears welled in her eyes as she pressed her hands harder against the wound, willing her powers to respond. "Please... please work!"

Your vision blurred, the edges of the world going dark, but you could still feel her, the warmth of her hands, the desperation in her touch.

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing closer. By the time the ambulance arrived, you were barely conscious. Anna never let go of you, her fingers intertwined with yours as they lifted you onto the stretcher.

"Please, babe..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "Don’t you ever leave me alone. Please, wake up."

Her grip tightened on your hand as the ambulance doors closed behind her, the sound of her quiet sobs filling the space as the vehicle sped into the night.
